It’s nights like the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley’s anniversary celebration that remind me of the power of building a better world for women and girls. Zonta is such an incredible organization that has helped me grow through mentorship and leadership, all while building a better world for women and girls. It all began in 2019 when I received their international Zonta Women in Business scholarship to complete my master’s degree. Little did I know then that he scholarship was about so much more than financial support. It was the start of a transformative mentorship that would fill my journey with opportunities, connections, and personal growth. My Zonta journey has included being featured in the “Remarkable Women: Powerful Story” series by Zonta International, speaking at the 2022 convention in Hamburg and the 2024 convention in Brisbane, and receiving the mentorship and support I needed to see three things: my upbringing is unique, my value is not based on what I produce, and my future is filled with hope because I have something unique to offer. My favorite part of this Zonta event was the honor to be featured in a video at the event showcasing the legacy of the Zonta Club of SCV and its dedication to empowering women alongside community pillars like Di Thompson, Marlee Lauffer, and former Zonta International President Sharon Langenbeck.
Every time I’m invited to share space with such incredible women, I can’t help but feel a little insecure. It’s hard not to when you’re surrounded by people who have done so much for the world! But, in true Zonta fashion, Past International President Sharon Langenbeck reminded me that she is, and always will be, “just Sharon”—a down-to-earth, kind, leader who will continue to humbly forge new paths for women right alongside me. |
